Industrial Metal Supply
Industrial Metal Supply Company (IMS) is a full line metal distributor serving Southern California and Arizona metal users in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Inland Empire, and Phoenix. Since 1948, the company has grown to become a respected aluminum, steel and sheet metal supplier by combining a wide range of products and services with customer-oriented support. Read on to learn how the company’s extensive inventory, robust production capabilities and exceptional customer service have evolved over six-plus decades of growth.
When it first opened its doors for business, IMS was a true family operation. Founded by Norman Sherman and his wife Sally, IMS began as a scrap and surplus business that used the family’s 1947 Pontiac station wagon as the delivery vehicle by day, and as the family car by night. Over the years market demand required a second facility be opened, and in 1989 Norm and Sally’s son Neil opened a second IMS branch in Irvine. From 1995 to 2006, IMS experienced even more positive growth, opening new branches in San Diego, Phoenix, and Inland Empire, and then expanding to new locations with more retail and warehouse space in San Diego and Sun Valley. Underlying each new opening was growing consumer demand and an ever-expanding inventory. IMS locations now carry a long list of metals in various alloys, shapes, and sizes; specialty and decorative metals; as well as a large selection of metalworking tools and supplies, in over 400,000 total square feet of warehouse space
